Find and Remove Silence in Final Cut Pro and DaVinci Resolve Without Ever Leaving your Timeline.
SilenceScout is a silence and freeze-frame detection plugin for
Other tools require you to leave your NLE, import media into a separate app, configure, process, export FCPXML or EDL, switch back, and import. That's too many steps across multiple apps, and you have to repeat it if you switch NLEs. SilenceScout does it all without ever leaving your timeline. In

New in Version 1.1 : Compound Clips and Multicam Support in Final Cut Pro
SilenceScout 1.1 can now analyze Compound Clips, emitting a new Compound Clip that preserves the structure of the original, and improves support for
When applied to Multicam, it detects the silence intersection across every angle — a section is only "silent" when every angle is simultaneously silent, so on-mic dialogue on any one angle keeps the moment — and emits a new Multicam with synchronized cuts on every angle.
Threshold-based Silence Detection
Set a dB threshold, minimum duration and let it analyze audio in 50ms chunks to find all silent regions*. Three output modes are supported:
- Silence Removed: cuts out the dead air.
- Silence as Gaps: replaces silent regions with gap clips so you can see the structure.
- Blade at Silence: keeps everything but tags silent sections with [SILENCE] or [FREEZE] keywords and color-coded clips for manual review.
It’s fast! A 10-minute clip takes about 2 seconds. Hour-long recordings take 10–30 seconds.
* Optional video freeze detection can also flag frozen frames like dropouts and capture glitches, even if the audio is still playing.
In Final Cut Pro

Apply SilenceScout from the Effects browser as an effect on your clip.
Adjust threshold, min duration, and padding in the Inspector, choose an output mode, click Process — a restructured timeline appears in

Live waveform preview: Adjust the threshold slider and the waveform display updates instantly — silent regions are highlighted as you tune, so you can dial in the cut before processing.
