FxFactory 8.0.24 Release Notes

Our newest version is highly recommended for early adopters of macOS 26 Tahoe. The update ensures that plugin UI looks and works as expected in the inspector, and updates our Finder icon to match the new look and feel of macOS.

If you own a copy of FxFactory Pro you will notice a new, Tahoe-friendly icon in the Dock:

FxFactory 8.0.24 is also required to install and use three newly redesigned plugins in FxFactory Pro, covered separately.

The changes in this release are more than cosmetic. Here are the most important bug fixes and improvements:

  • FxFactory will reliably activate its FxFactory Agent app for many plugin tasks that start in a video app. Some users were having trouble noticing or activating this app when attempting to select a file, open the Preset browser, or configure a photo sequence in Photo Montage.
  • We solved a rare problem that affected users in After Effects, causing it to crash when effects where added to a Solid layer while the parameter inspector was not visible.
  • We improved responsiveness of our most complex plugins, such as Nodes and Motype, sporting many hundreds of parameters.
  • We improved the visibility of our range sliders on smaller screens where the inspector may be quite narrow:
    Improved range sliders
  • We improved how our plugins interact with the Final Cut Pro Libraries on your system for the purpose of selecting media.

Browsing Final Cut Pro Libraries with Photo Montage

This release makes an important change to the Final Cut Pro Library browser available with Photo Montage. The browser appears when clicking the Images button to add files to your photo sequence:

The sidebar lists all Libraries on local drives that contain suitable media. When building a list of photos, the browser shows Events that contain still images:

Browsing Final Cut Pro libraries on connected drives

Beginning with this release, FxFactory only lists Libraries and Events that have been modified in the past week. This is likely to give you access only to projects you are working on. This time period can be adjusted by clicking the Search button below the list:

Searching events within a given time range

This change should help users with a very large number of Libraries found on potentially numerous locally connected drives. Limiting the search scope speeds up the indexing process, making our UI more responsive and helping you narrow down your search to the most likely candidates.

Selecting Photos for Pan and Zoom

A similar change has also been made to the photo selection menu in other plugins, such as the popular Pan and Zoom freebie. When selecting a file from one of the existing Libraries on your system, only Events modified within a set time period are displayed:

This time period can be customized through the Search options you can find under that same menu:

An identical shortcut button to your Libraries is available in the inspector:

Changing the search scope throug the inspector

This is a killer feature for the majority of users, but there are systems out there with a vast number of Libraries and Events to go through. In these situations our browser can be impractical. Those who wish to turn off this feature should look under the Advanced section of the FxFactory Settings window:

Here you can turn off this feature, or adjust the search scope just as it is available in Final Cut Pro.
