Transcoding media to ProRES can greatly improve performance of common tasks that involve third-party effects. Create Optimized Media in Final Cut Pro by right-clicking on the clip and selecting the command:

On the next dialog, enable the Create optimized media option and click the button to confirm:
If the option cannot be enabled, optimized media is already available for the selected clip.
