Mask From Color

A color adjustment that extracts a mask (matte) from your media through a simplified color key. This effect starts out in Setup (see below for details). Once an appropriate color key has been selected, disable Setup to view the output.

Compatibility

Mask From Color is compatible with Final Cut Pro, Motion, Premiere Pro and After Effects.

Parameters

Presets

Presets contain a snapshot of your effect configuration. 2 built-in presets are available.

When you save parameter configuration to a file on disk, this file can later be loaded to recreate the same effect configuration. Presets generated in one video application can be used by the same plug-in running in a different video application.

Working with the Presets Menu

Chroma Key

Setup

Enable this parameter to pick an appropriate color for your key. Turn it off to render the final output.

Key Color

Set to
90% red, 30% green, 14% blue, 100% alpha in the SRGB color space by default.

Pre-blur

Set to 5% by default.

Blurs color information before the keying algorithm is applied.

Configuration

The following options are available:

Allows you to control the keying algorithm through a single, simpler Tolerance parameter or by specifying exact maximum distances between the given key and the pixels in your media.

Tolerance

Instructs the algorithm to be more or less strict in matching colors to the chosen key.

Hue Distance

Set to 10% by default.

Maximum difference between the hue of a pixel and the chosen key for a pixel to be considered opaque.

Saturation Distance

Set to 15% by default.

Maximum difference between the saturation level of a pixel and the chosen key for a pixel to be considered opaque.

Brightness Distance

Set to 50% by default.

Maximum difference between the brightness of a pixel and the chosen key for a pixel to be considered opaque.

Sharpness

Controls the amount of blurring applied to the keyed area.

Invert

Off by default.

Inverts the output of the keying algorithm.

Apply Mask

Applies the matte immediately, causing the output to be a result of compositing the original video with the key.

Range

Controls the sensitivity of the compositing step, i.e. the process of combining the original video with the key, when the Apply Mask option is on.
